Monroe County Commissioners meet

The Monroe County Commissioners met on Wednesday morning and conducted the following business.

Amendments to the county employee manual were made to make new employees eligible for health care after 58 days of employment, rather than 60. Also the maximum amount of time off for those on work-related disability was shortened from 24 months to 12 months.

The county hired Ken Brown of KRB Consulting Services LLC to provide water and sewer infrastructure consulting services to the county. This is to help identify where there may be excess capacity in the county for new development.

Christopher Brown was hired as solicitor to the Coroner’s Office.

The Pocono Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America was approved to hold a Vietnam Veterans Day ceremony on Courthouse Square.

Bids were approved for Mount Pocono Fence for $2,150 to repair a fence at McMichael Creek.

Matheson Transfer Company was awarded the contract to move voting machines for both elections in 2018 at a price of $7,100.

Appointments were made to the NEPA Municipal Planning Organization. Commissioner John Christy will serve as Urbanized Area Representative. Eric Koopman will serve as his alternate.

Lynn Hauth was reappointed to the Carbon, Monroe, Pike Mental Health and Developmental Services Advisory Board.

The following actions were taken for Monroe County Children and Youth:

Contracts were finalized for July 1, 2016, through June 6, 2017, for Haven Home for Girls in the amount of $70,000, The Bair Foundation of Pennsylvania in the amount of $17,000, Access Services Inc. in the amount of $10,000, and Youth Services Agency in the amount of $450,000.

Purchase of Services Agreements were executed for July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018, for KidsPeace National Centers Inc. for $110,000, Luzerne County Children and Youth in the amount of $26,000, Glen Mills Schools in the amount of $400,000, the Devereux Foundation in the amount of $75,000 and TrueCore Behavioral Solutions LLC in the amount of $375,000.

The commissioner nominated the following to serve on the Monroe County Local Emergency Planning Committee:

Robert Wallen M.D. of Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, Daniel Hammonds of the Weiler Corporation and Liz Barleson of Harsco Industrial/Patterson Kelly Corporation.
