Monroe man flees police; crashes

A Monroe County man fled police Tuesday, crashed his vehicle, and is now facing multiple charges.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said at 11:51 p.m. police attempted to stop a 2006 Toyota Corolla for numerous traffic violations at the intersection of Rob Roy and Lamont Way. The driver did not stop despite the emergency lights and siren of the police cruiser.

Police pursued the vehicle until it crashed at the intersection of Rob Roy and Kings Way. The driver then jumped out of the vehicle but was ordered to the ground and taken into custody.

The driver was identified as Randolph McCoy, 42, of Tobyhanna. McCoy smelled of alcohol and had an open container, along with a bag of esctacy in the vehicle. He was transported to the county prison pending arraignment.

He was charged with driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding police while DUI, possession of a controlled substance and summary traffic violations. The first count is a felony.
