A man convicted of a car-jacking and threatening a veteran in Monroe County has been sentenced to 26-52 years in state prison.

The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office announced that Eddie Quick, 32, no residence listed, was sentenced last week in a 2015 incident.

The sentence was handed down following a two-day trial in which Quick was convicted of robbery of a motor vehicle, robbery by threat, theft, receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding from police, terroristic threats, possession of instruments of a crime and recklessly endangering another person.

Police said on Oct. 16, 2015, Quick forcibly took a motor vehicle from the victim, a 67-year-old military veteran, on the side of Route 196 in Mount Pocono.

Police said he pulled the victim from his vehicle while stopped on the side of the road and, when met with resistance, brandished a KA-BAR military-style knife and threatened to kill the victim multiple times.

Police said the Quick was able to get into the vehicle and dragged the victim for approximately 30 feet before he was able to free himself.

Corporal Matthew Nero of the Pocono Mountain Regional Police arrived on scene and issued a notice to area law enforcement to be on the lookout for the victim’s vehicle.

Police said Quick fled down Route 196 with the victim’s car until he was spotted by Pocono Township Police Officer John Manuel who activated his emergency lights and sirens in attempt to stop him.

Police said Quick refused to stop, and led Officer Manuel, Pennsylvania State Police troopers, and Stroud Area Regional Police officers on an 11-mile high speed chase on Interstate 80 eastbound, from Scotrun to East Stroudsburg, during which time Quick traveled in speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour while weaving in and out of traffic.

Ultimately, stop sticks were deployed by Trooper Salvatore Gattuso, which flattened a tire on the vehicle operated by Quick. The man, however, did not yield, and continued for approximately another mile, striking a tractor trailer, before he lost control and collided with a light pole off of Exit 308.

Police said Quick fled the vehicle.

Police used a Taser on him and tackled him. Corporal Nero found a bag belonging to Quick that contained the KA-BAR military style knife in the victim’s vehicle.
