Monroe resident killed in wrong-way crash

ALPHA, N.J. (AP) — State police say a car heading the wrong way on an interstate in New Jersey crashed into a tractor-trailer, killing the car driver and seriously injuring his passenger.

Trooper Alejandro Goez says the 2:47 a.m. Saturday crash occurred in the westbound lanes of I-78 in Alpha, Warren County.

Police said the car was heading east in the westbound lanes and collided with a tractor-trailer heading west, killing 22-year-old Tamarri-Ashton Webster of Tobyhanna.

His 23-year-old passenger was flown to St. Luke’s University in Fountain Hill with life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was uninjured.

Police were investigating how the car ended up heading the wrong way on the highway. All three westbound lanes were closed for about five hours, with traffic diverted onto the right shoulder.
