Monroe traffic stop leads to gun, drug charges

A traffic stop has led to the arrest and jailing of a Monroe County man.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said officers conducted a traffic stop about 7:43 p.m. on Monday at the five points intersection in Mount Pocono for several traffic violations.

The driver was identified as Chazhill E. Ernest, 21, of 7138 Susquehanna Drive, Tobyhanna.

Ernest had no driver’s license and appeared to be under the influence of marijuana.

Ernest was taken into custody for driving under the influence. Multiple searches of Ernest’s person revealed amounts of suspected marijuana, cocaine and a loaded firearm with an obliterated serial number.

As a result Ernest was charge with felony counts of contraband, possession of a firearm with obliterated serial number, carrying a concealed firearm without a license and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance; and misdemeanor counts of tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also charged with various motor vehicle code summary offenses.

He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Snydersville after failing to post $50,000 bail.
