Monroe voters favor GOP candidates in part of state balloting
Voters in Monroe County took to the polls on Tuesday, voting primarily for Republican candidates.
Democrat Matt Cartwright won a fourth term in the U.S. House on Tuesday.
Cartwright garnered 18,335 votes to outdistance Republican challenger John Chrin, who got 15,156 votes. There were a total of 33,491 votes.
The U.S. House of Representatives, District 8 includes Chestnuthill and Polk townships in Monroe County.
Republican Mario Scavello won re-election in the State Senate District 40.
Scavello, with 23,852 votes, soundly defeated Democratic opponent Tarah Probst, 21,053, and Libertarian Adam Reinhardt, 470. There were a total of 45,375 votes.
The 40th senatorial District includes all of Monroe County except Barrett, Coolbaugh and Price townships, and part of Northampton County.
Republican Jack Rader gained re-election to the 176th House Representative legislative district.
Rader earned 11,181 votes to turn back Democratic challenger Claudette Williams, who got 9,247. There were a total of 20,428 total votes.
The 176th legislative district includes Chestnuthill, Eldred, Jackson, Pocono, Polk, Tobyhanna and Tunkhannock townships and Mount Pocono borough.
Republican Rosemary Brown earned re-election to the 189th Legislative District.
Brown gained 8,331 votes to best Democratic challenger Adam Rodriguez, who had 6,046 votes. There were a total of 14,377 votes.
The 189th Legislative District includes Barrett, Hamilton, Middle Smithfield, Ross and Smithfield townships, Stroud Township’s 7th precinct, Delaware Water Gap and Pike County’s Delaware, Lehman and Porter townships.
