Motions hearing held for Christy
Shawn Christy, 27, the McAdoo man who led authorities on a three-month multistate manhunt last summer, was not present for two motions hearings scheduled Friday in Schuylkill County Court.
District Attorney Mike O’Pake said that the hearings are to be continued, as Christy is being detained by federal authorities. Christy faces numerous federal charges in various cases, including: Three counts threats against the president of the United States, interstate communications — threats to law enforcement officers, two counts transmitting threatening communications, interstate communications — threats to injure another person, two counts interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle, two counts interstate transportation of a stolen firearm, interstate transportation of a firearm while under an information for a felony offense, transport firearm interstate by a felon, two counts fugitive in possession of a firearm, and two counts felon in possession of a firearm.
Christy appeared in Schuylkill County Court on March 22 and was granted a continuance for his trial on Schuylkill County charges, which include four felony counts of aggravated assault and two counts simple assault stemming from an alleged attack on Stephan Holly in 2017, when Holly was Mayor of McAdoo. When he appeared in court March 22, Christy asked that he be tried on federal charges first, a request granted by Schuylkill County President Judge William E. Baldwin.
Christy’s federal trial had been slated to begin May 6, but a motion for continuance has been granted. To date, his federal trial has not been rescheduled.
