Nesquehoning Borough Council

Nesquehoning Borough Council discussed or acted on the following items at its meeting last week.

• Council reminds property owners that they are not allowed to have down spouting or sump pumps connected to the borough sewer system. Those in violation could face fines up to $1,000 if these items are not removed. Letters to residents in violation of the borough ordinance will first receive a letter notifying them of their violation and be asked to remove the items.

• Councilwoman Rosemary Porembo spoke about a report on the amount of time borough police respond to the county prison for various incidents regarding inmates. She said council needs to meet with the county commissioners to discuss how much money responding to the county prison is costing the borough and see if there is some type of compensation for the police’s time that can be arranged.

• Nesquehoning is replacing its dry hydrants at the Nesquehoning Conservation Club’s pond at the intersection of Park Avenue and Industrial Road but require DEP permits before the project can proceed. Borough agreed to submit the permit application on Nesquehoning Hose Company fire Chief John McArdle’s request.

• Authorized the borough solicitor to prepare mutual aid agreements for first responders so it is outlined who covers cost in the event an emergency personnel gets hurts in another municipality.

• There will be no Neighborhood Watch meeting in September.

• Electronics recycling will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 11. More details will be released closer to the event.
