Nesquehoning council

Nesquehoning Borough Council acted or discussed a number of items during its monthly meeting last week.

• The borough is still trying to reach an agreement on the fire hydrants in Lake Hauto. Councilman George Sabol said that officials want the public to be aware that the current hydrant lines are inadequate in the private development, which are maintained by the Lansford-Coaldale Joint Water Authority. The borough plans to notify its insurance company, as well as Carbon and Schuylkill Emergency Management Agencies that no agreement to better protect the residents in Lake Hauto has been reached and there are issues with fire protection as a result.

• Multiple residents complained about various properties that are in poor condition in the borough and said that ordinances need to be better enforced.

• Borough council gave conditional plan approval to KRR Realty for the construction of the Huddle House restaurant at the intersection of routes 209 and 93; as well as plan approval for a proposed storage facility on Kovatch property off West Railroad Street.
