A Nesquehoning man was sentenced to a state prison term on Friday on drug-related charges.

Anthony S. Thorpe, 30, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve one to three years in a state correctional institution on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. He was placed on probation for a year on counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and retail theft.

Thorpe was arrested on the possession with intent to deliver charge on May 30, 2017, by Lansford police in the 300 block of East Abbott Street.

Police went to a residence on another matter and found Thorpe in the home with baggies of heroin and $300 in cash in plain view.

The paraphernalia charge stemmed from a vehicle stop by Nesquehoning police on June 30, 2017. The retail theft occurred May 8, 2017, at Boyer’s Market in Lansford.

Thorpe is currently an inmate in the county prison facing a state parole violation charge.

Matika also ordered him to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, render 100 hours of community service when paroled, make restitution to Boyer’s for $15.64 and pay court costs of about $1,000.

He was given credit for 252 days spent in jail on the charges. He told the court on the state parole violation he is facing one to two years in prison.
