Nesquehoning officials spread information on CodeRED system
Nesquehoning officials are trying to make it a little easier to disseminate information to borough residents through the CodeRED community notification system.
Last week, borough council announced that it will be sending out forms for CodeRED in the coming months and urged residents to fill out the form, which includes contact information, and return it in a timely manner.
CodeRED is operated through Carbon County and is an essential tool for community residents to get information such as weather emergencies, power outages, water main breaks and more on their phone or by email.
Nesquehoning has the opportunity to use this system on a boroughwide scale. It could be used for snow parking, snow emergencies, water main breaks and shut-offs, changes in the trash pickup schedule and more.
“It would be advantageous to do this so they would be aware of what is going on in the community,” said Councilwoman Rosemary Porembo.
In other matters, borough council approved its plan to make changes to its streetlights.
The borough has been working on determining what lights can be removed and where lights should be added for a few years as a way to cut down on the annual electric bill. The money saved could then be used on other projects like street improvements.
The plans will now be submitted to PPL Electric to be completed. The streetlights will also be converted to LED.
