Nesquehoning officials warn residents of IRS scammers
Nesquehoning officials want area residents to know that the IRS is not really calling them.
On Wednesday, Mayor Sam Kitchko said that there have been reports of residents receiving phone calls from the IRS, which is a scam. The callers ask the person to purchase prepaid Visa gift cards at either Rite Aid or CVS and mail them to a certain address as payment.
Kitchko said that the IRS is not calling people and will not ask for prepaid gift cards as payment.
In other matters, the borough discussed or acted on the following items:

• Construction on the Rhume Street project should begin between May 15 and 18.
• The street crew will be helping install the Hometown Heroes banners that the Nesquehoning Historical Society and VFW started ahead of Memorial Day.
• The Nesquehoning Conservation Club’s annual fishing derby will take place on May 12 at the conservation club’s pond, located between Park Avenue and Industrial Road in the Hauto Valley Estates.
