Nesquehoning VFW auxiliary meets

The regular monthly meeting of the auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held on May 18, at the Post Home with President Christa Kattner presiding.

Go Orders 10 were read and filed for action. A thank you was received from the Panther Valley Elementary School. The Department of Pennsylvania Convention will be held from June 13-16 in Gettysburg.

Items are being collected at the convention to send to our troops; a list of items needed and a box for donations will be placed at the Post Home.

The Hometown Heroes Banner Program is almost complete for this year and were on display by Memorial Day.

Ninety-five community service hours were reported, and 52 cards were sent by members present.

The Auxiliary thanks the public for their support of the Buddy Poppy Program during their weekend at Redner’s. Upcoming projects will include Gertrude Hawk candy, Tommy’s gift cards and “Friends Helping Friends” at Boscov’s.

The annual Loyalty Day Program, held on May 1, was successful. The local Post and Auxiliary hosted the District 20 Convention on May 20.

Joint installation of officers was held on May 25. Outlying cemeteries were visited on May 27 with brief services held at each location. The annual Memorial Day Parade was held on May 28. The JROTC Awards ceremony was held on May 30.

Starting in June, meetings will be held on the second Friday of the month. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Post Home. All members are welcome to attend and new members are always welcome.
