New England Motor Freight bankruptcy auction underway

NEMF announced its bankruptcy in February. At the time the company had 48 trucking terminals with more than 3,800 employees.
Taylor and Martin Inc., an auction house specializing in tractor trailers, is liquidating all the company’s assets.
At Monday’s auction they planned to sell all the trucks which were housed at the terminal, which is located in Mahoning Township just outside Lehighton. Bidders claimed dozens of trucks There were also forklifts, cars and all the equipment used to maintain the fleet.
Prospective buyers placed bids by phone, online as well as in person at the terminal.
The Lehighton Terminal was used to load, off load and maintain dozens of trucks which were once used to carry freight anywhere from New England to Western Pennsylvania.
More than 200 workers at the Lehighton terminal lost their jobs from the closure. In addition to drivers, there was also a team of 40 mechanics who kept the trucks on the road.
New England Motor Freight bought the Lehighton Terminal in 1986. Prior to that, it was operated by Interstate Dress Carriers, later known as International Distribution Centers.
