New exhibit opens at Muhlenberg Wednesday

Published November 24. 2017 12:39PM

Martin Art Gallery at Muhlenberg College presents “Still Rendering,” a two-man exhibition featuring works by Chris Coleman and Anthony Panzera will be on view Wednesday through Jan. 15 in the Baker Center for the Arts. An opening reception with the artists will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Panzera will return for a public talk on his project, “The Leonardo Series,” from 2 to 3 p.m. Dec. 6, and will offer studio visits to Muhlenberg students that same day.

“Still Rendering” is an exhibition that explores radically different approaches to applying aesthetics, science and technology to contemporary art practice. Panzera’s project uses the methods outlined in Leonardo da Vinci’s writings and anatomical renderings to explore proportion in a body of new figurative work. Coleman’s “Secure Shell Copy Series” comprises digital images and videos derived from 3D scans of the human body that are manipulated with algorithms and data.

Coleman was born in West Virginia. He received his MFA from SUNY Buffalo in New York. His work includes sculptures, 2D/3D digital prints, videos, creative coding and interactive installations.

Panzera was born in Brooklyn, New York. He received a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York and an MFA from Southern Illinois University. He spent a year in Florence, Italy on independent study.

Martin Art Gallery and the Galleria are located in Baker Center for the Arts on Muhlenberg College Campus, 2400 Chew St. in Allentown. Martin Art Gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. The Galleria is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
