New York driver charged after fatal Monroe crash
A New York state driver is facing charges of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and other counts following a fatal crash that occurred on Tuesday in Monroe County.
State police at Fern Ridge said Ramon Rampersaud, 34, of Richmond Hill, will also be charged with homicide by vehicle, DUI and related counts.
The crash occurred at 9:27 p.m. along Route 715, just west of Black Bear Lane, in Jackson Township.
Troopers said Rampersaud was operating a 2002 Honda Pilot northbound when he lost control. The vehicle left the road on the right side and struck a tree. The left rear passenger, Seydina Kane, 32, of Brooklyn, New York, was killed.
Rampersaud and passengers Rajendra Singh, 31, and Christopher C. Watson, 38, both of Brooklyn, were all taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Pocono, East Stroudsburg. Troopers said Rampersaud showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody after receiving treatment at the hospital. Reports indicate he is currently an inmate in the county prison in Snydersville.
The investigation into the crash is continuing.
