No budget increase next year in Schuylkill Township

Published November 07. 2019 01:30PM

Schuylkill Township residents can breathe a sigh of relief.

There will be no tax increase in 2020, as announced at Monday’s board of supervisors meeting.

Supervisors reviewed next year’s budget, and said they plan to hold the line on next year’s tax rate.

Also on Monday, it was announced that an emergency meeting was held Oct. 30 concerning trick or treat night.

The decision was made to move trick or treat night to this past Saturday, instead of its original day of Oct. 31, due to the weather.

Township secretary Colleen Barrett noted the comments of the townspeople that trick-or-treat night was always held on Halloween day.

“Maybe we could create a community group that can deal with activities like this and other activities like yard sales,” Barrett said. “That way, it doesn’t have to go through the entire government.”

The board discussed the suggestion and ultimately found that it would still have to go through the government for approval so it wouldn’t do anything to save time, which would be the main reason for the group.
