A vehicle caught fire at 7:14 p.m. Tuesday along Route 924, in East Union Township, Schuylkill County, but the driver escaped injuries.

State police at Frackville said Jaylan O. Henry, 19, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2003 Chrysler Sebring northbound and negotiating a right curve when he noticed in his rearview mirror smoke coming from the rear of his vehicle. He then noticed smoke coming from under the hood.

Henry pulled onto the right shoulder of the road where flames began to emit from under the hood. Henry called 911 and remained a safe distance from the vehicle. Emergency equipment later arrived. The vehicle sustained permanent disabling damages and was towed from the scene.

Troopers said Henry was cited for not having a valid license.
