No new taxes in Bowmanstown
Bowmanstown borough council met Thursday and passed the 2019 budget with no new taxes.
The budget stands at 9.412 general mills — 1.346 mills for the fire tax, 1 mill for street improvement, 1.184 mills for lighting, and 0.063 mills for the local library.
The borough has a capital reserve of $473,515. With additional income, the total income is $881,400. Expenditures totaled $468,196.
According to borough secretary Tracy Burbage, the borough has some liquid fuels funds remaining. These funds are intended to be used for road projects. The state gains the funds through the gasoline tax.
Between what the borough has remaining and what it will receive, it will have about $73,000 in liquid fuels money.
Burbage said the borough plans to use it to help fund road repairs this spring. She said the total cost of the roadwork is expected to be about $240,000.
In prior meetings, the borough has discussed doing patching and curb repair on Lime Street from Hamilton to Ore Street and from Ore to White Street, patching at the bottom 200 feet of Craig Street, 350 feet of the roadway repair on Lincoln Avenue, and patching on White Street to Stoney Hill and to Ridge Street.
