No tax hike expected in Rush

Published November 17. 2017 12:06PM

Rush Township appears poised to hold the line on next year’s property tax rate.

The township’s board of supervisors on Thursday agreed to advertise the 2018 budget for public review for 20 days.

Afterward, board Chairman Shawn Gilbert announced that there will be no tax increase, sewer increase or garbage increase in next year’s spending plan.

If the board were to approve the 2018 budget with no tax increase, it would leave the millage rate unchanged at 5.62 mills.

In December, supervisors adopted this year’s budget with no increase in the millage rate.

However, sewer fees increased by $6 per quarter for Hometown residents, and by $4 per quarter for Lake Hauto residents as a result of an increase the township has to pay.

That raised Hometown’s sewer rate to $178, and Lake Hauto’s to $144.

There were no other increases associated with this year’s budget.
