No tax increase in Nesquehoning

Published December 22. 2017 12:18PM

Nesquehoning residents will see no changes to their borough tax bills in 2018.

On Wednesday, borough council adopted its 2018 budget with no increase, leaving the millage at 18.55.

That means that a homeowner with a $100,000 home assessed at $50,000 will again pay the same amount in real estate taxes as in 2017.

The breakdown for the $1,831,122.68 spending plan is 16.5 mills going to the general fund, 1.75 mills going to fire protection and 0.3 mills going to recreation.

One mill in Nesquehoning represents $64,322.87.

Councilman Frank Jacobs outlined the budget figures, which didn’t change from the preliminary figures in November, before the vote.

In other matters, council is still looking at what it can do regarding a recycling program in the borough.

Officials received one quote, as well as an estimate for services, but said they would continue the discussion on what to do next month.

Council also approved Grace Gilkeson to be the Nesquehoning representative on the Dimmick Memorial Library board.

Nesquehoning Borough Council will reorganize at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 2.
