Voting in Pennsylvania

Recently, State House Republican Leader Mike Turzai, in a report to fellow Republicans in Hershey, listed achievements made in the legislature. Among those he listed were, "Voter ID, which is going to allow Governor (Mitt) Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania, done."

That will be done by making it more difficult for qualified Democrats to vote. The subject of voter ID has been in the news since last year, not only in Pennsylvania but across the country. Suddenly, the issue of voter fraud became a serious threat to freedom and the entire voting process, even though there has been no documented incident of voter fraud in Pennsylvania. The Republican response to this nonissue was to pass a voter identification law (SB354) that would require a voter to possess a recent, Government issued, photo ID to vote.

A current driver's license would be an example.

Unfortunately, over 600,000 citizens (PennDOT estimate), otherwise qualified to vote, don not have driver's licenses. Those include the young, the working poor in urban areas, the elderly and the disabled. For the elderly and disabled, obtaining the photo ID can be daunting and discouraging. Those are the folks who tend to vote Democratic. This year they may not be allowed to vote.

If Republican strategy is correct, "Voter ID.....(may) ... allow Governor (Mitt) Romney to win the State of Pennsylvania ..."

When voter fraud is mentioned, where is the real fraud?
