Cross country
The Tamaqua Cross Country Boosters will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 11. Parents of all team members, from grades 7-12, as well as adults interested in supporting the teams, are welcome to attend.
Playground party
The North and Middle Ward Playground Association will hold its annual "Back to School" party and dance on Aug. 25.
The event will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the playground, located on Washington Street.
Music will be provided by DJs Brad and Kathy Murphy and Wally Poppins the clown will make a special appearance. In addition to the dance contest, there will also be juggling, balloon animals and more.
Admission is free.
YMCA news
The Tamaqua YMCA's Jack and Jill Preschool is currently accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year.
The program is available for children between the ages of 3-5, with two- or three-day per week sessions.

Trinity UCC
The Rev. Thomas Reinsel will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Trinity United Church of Christ. The service will include a Joyous Noise Offering.
Zion Lutheran
The annual church picnic for Zion Evangelical Lutheran members will be held this Sunday at the Bungalow Park. The day will begin with a worship service, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Jeffrey Kistler officiating, followed by the picnic at 11 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, blanket ministry will meet at 9 a.m., newsletter deadline; Tuesday, Girl Scout swap at 6:30 p.m., council meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, set up for peach social; Thursday, peach social begins at 4 p.m.
