Senior citizens
The Tamaqua Seniors met Aug. 30 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 81 members and one guest, Roxanne, in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading. Secretary Joan Ann Garber and vice president Nancy Gerber provided their reports.
Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "The Little Things From Home."
An election of officers will be held during the Sept. 13 meeting. Flu shots will be available at the Sept. 20 meeting and August and September birthdays will be celebrated at the Sept. 27 meeting.
The meeting concluded with cards and social games.
The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.
Calvary Evangelical
The Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include the observance of "Grandparents Day."
Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 7 p.m.
The Lumber River Gospel Quartet will present a concert at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14, at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Rd., Tamaqua.
First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include a children's message offered by Marge Kropp. Sunday school will be held following the service.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, trustees meet at 6 p.m., administrative council meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, the quilters will meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, United Methodist Women will meet at 12:30 p.m., the chancel choir will rehearse at 7 p.m.
St. Peter's Union
The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include a Harvest Home Festival and Sunday school promotions.
Also on Sunday, Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, food coop meets at 9 a.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, prayer group will meet at 4:45 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 6 p.m., senior choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m.
