A dangerous dilemma

Published September 08. 2012 09:02AM

Dear Editor:

My husband and I are residents of Bowmanstown. We live on East Mill Street in Meadow Crest. In the past we have had two access roads to exit or enter our home: East Mill to Craig Street to Fire Line Road and East Mill Street to Oriole Road to Fire Line Drive.

However, Oriole Road has now been barricaded with boulders for the past several weeks. Consequently, if a car accident or any other type of emergency closed Craig Street, then we would lose Craig Street as an access road, totally isolating the entire Meadow Crest Area from access to Fire Line Road. If my husband or I needed to either enter or exit our home, we would need to use Oriole road, but this is impossible since it is barricaded at the present time.

Also, how would an ambulance or fire truck or police car enter or exit to our home or any other home in Meadow Crest, if Craig Street were blocked by a car accident or any other mishap and Oriole Road is still barricaded? This creates a possible life threatening dilemma.

The situation has become a major concern for my husband and me.

We believe that the Borough of Bowmanstown should resolve this very serious problem before a tragedy occurs. No available access road coupled with a life threatening emergency (such as a heart attack or fire) could lead to an unfortunate death or our home burning down, due to the inability of emergency vehicles gaining access to our location.
