New school lunch guidelines
The USDA recently unveiled new standards for the National School Lunch Program, which affects the food served in school cafeterias across the country. Changes include:
• Offering both fruits and vegetables at each meal
• Increasing whole-grain food offerings
• Offering only fat-free or low-fat milk and dairy products
• Adjusting portion sizes and calories for the student's age
• Reducing sodium and saturated and trans fats
