Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Seniors met Oct. 11 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 83 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading.

Secretary Joan Anne Garber and Vice President Nancy Gerber provided their reports.

Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "Autumn's In The Air." Pearl Davis and Carol Yanlavage were added to the sick list.

Upcoming events were discussed, including a Chinese auction and canned goods collection for Oct. 18; bus trip to the Reading area on Oct. 29; overnight trip to Sands Casino on Nov. 1.

The meeting concluded with cards and social games.

The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m., at the community center.

Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.

SWNC

The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet this Thursday, at 7 p.m., in the South Ward Community Center, Penn Street. Anyone interested in improving the ward is welcome to attend.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes and the junior membership classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the TYM staff will meet at 11:45 a.m.; monthly service at the Hometown Nursing Center at 2:30 p.m.; resolution workshop at 7 p.m.; Tuff Stuff for junior/senior high students meets at 7 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, "Forgiveness" study for the women's group begins at 6:30 p.m., drama group meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, encountering Jesus group meets at 11 a.m., Good News Club meets at the South Ward Playground at 3:45 p.m., football/sports group meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 6:30 p.m., "The Story" growth group meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, hoagie sale at 7 a.m., End Times study group begins at 1 p.m., Men's Fraternity meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, men's breakfast at 7 a.m., musician's rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice at 9:30 a.m., motorcycle ride at 11 a.m.

DARE meeting

The next regular meeting for the Tamaqua DARE Steering Committee will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at the Hometown McDonald's. New members are always welcome. Call (570) 778-2005 or 778-8247 for more information.
