Snowboarder dies at Camelback

Published January 28. 2017 09:03AM

Officials say a snowboarder has died at Camelback Ski Resort in the Poconos after veering off an expert trail and striking a rock.

Monroe County Chief Deputy Coroner Michael Sak says 21-year-old Ryan Wasson of Albrightsville was snowboarding down a trail known as "the Hump" at excessive speed Thursday night when he lost control.

Officials say Wasson had gone to the Tannersville resort with friends. They say he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Camelback spokesman Brian Czarnecki says emergency crews performed CPR and brought Wasson down the mountain on a toboggan. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
