"Simply, a place to enjoy good food with friends."

That is how Barbara Breiner, volunteer organizer and chief cook, describes the free community soup social held the first Saturday of every month in the social hall at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Tamaqua.

She added that the monthly social, which was started last year, is held free of charge to the community courtesy of community members and volunteers of the church.

"We hold the soup social in hopes of bringing members of the community together for an enjoyable time," added Breiner.

In past months, the free social has included a large array of homemade soups, deserts, fruits and drinks.

Volunteers point out that monetary donations are always accepted, but never expected.

The next soup social will be held this Saturday from 4-6:30 p.m. in the church's social hall. For more information, call the church at (570) 668-4139.
