And the survey says ...

Here are the results of a survey commissioned by the makers of Advil Cold & Sinus to uncover the toll sickness can take on our time, demeanor and productivity.

Americans who have gotten sick in the past 12 months estimate that when they are sick, they will, on average:

• Sniffle 22 times (disrupting 61 minutes each year)

• Cough 17 times (stealing 77 minutes each year)

• Blow their nose 14 times a day (taking 72 precious minutes each year)

• Complain an average of seven times each day they are unwell

A whopping four in five respondents (80 percent) say that being sick makes them less productive, and Americans on average say that they only function at 56 percent when they are sick. Yet, 75 percent still go to work.

Ninety three percent would pay money to guarantee they wouldn't get sick and, of those willing to pay, the average person would spend $179.

The survey also revealed what Americans would be willing to sacrifice to stay sickness-free for one year, including that a surprising 50 percent of Americans would give up their smartphones for one day each week, 62 percent would give up coffee for one month and 55 percent would give up streaming services for one month.
