Pleasant Valley's soccer, tennis teams pick up wins

Pleasant Valley continued its early season success in both boys tennis and girls soccer on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Lehighton-Palmerton

Lehighton edged Palmerton in a non-league game, 4-3.

The Indians scored a run in four straight innings from the third to the sixth to gain the victory.

Jacen Nalesnik had a triple and an RBI and Josh Kern had a double and an RBI for Lehighton (3-0).

Tanner Gutenkust had three hits for Palmerton (0-3). Mike Horvath, Aaron Cook and CJ Cressman all chipped in two hits.

Panther Vy.-Minersville

Minersville 13 runs in first three innings helped knock off visiting Panther Valley 13-2.

The Panthers Nick McArdle had a triple for the Panthers and Thad Ogozalek had their only two RBI's on a triple in the third inning.

The Miners did their damage on Panther errors scoring twice in the first and second on PV misfortune.

SOFTBALL

PM West-Marian

Marian used a 14-run fourth inning to get the non-league win over Pocono Mountain West, 16-1.

Lindsay Nemeth guided the Fillies on the mound, pitching all four innings and striking out seven.

Marian's Jeanne Cannon had a single, triple and five runs scored. Alexis Makowic added two hits and Ashton Galasso's two-run double ended the game for the Fillies.

GIRLS SOCCER

Stroudsburg-Lehighton

Stroudsburg breezed to a 6-0 win over Lehighton in Mountain Valley Conference action.

Five different Mounties scored a goal led by Kate Shaw who knocked in two.

Lehighton drops to 0-2 while Stroudsburg improves to 4-0.

ES South-Pleasant Vy.

Pleasant Valley blanked East Stroudsburg South in Mountain Valley Conference soccer action, 2-0.

The Bears dominated the Cavaliers on defense allowing them just two shots on goal.

Pleasant Valley managed 10 shots on net. Dianna Connor led the PV charge with a goal and an assist while Emily Schlogle scored the other goal.

BOYS TENNIS

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

Jim Thorpe downed Tamaqua, 4-1.

The Olympians' Corey Ligenza and Kyle Bacher picked up singles wins.

Tyler Krell was the lone winner for the Raiders.

PM East-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley continued its undefeated season, scoring a 5-2 Mountain Valley Conference win over Pocono Mountain East.

The Bears' Vince Voulo, Jon White, amd Jon Walmach swept singles action to help gain the victory.

The Bears improved to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the MVC.

Saucon Valley swept singles and doubles action to come away with a 5-0 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Pocono Mountain West picked up a 6-1 win over Lehighton in Mountain Valley Conference tennis action.

Justin Ziegenfus was the lone winner for the Indians, beating Armandeed Sharma in straight sets at No. 3 singles.
