Mahanoy Area blanked Marian in an early-season Schuylkill League softball showdown on Thursday.

SOFTBALL

Mahanoy Area-Marian

Mahanoy Area enacted the mercy rule, beating Marian, 11-0, in a Schuylkill League game.

Jamie Rago led the Golden Bears with two hits and four RBIs.

Gabby Cann and Lindsay Nemeth had hits for the Fillies, who fell to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Panther Valley-Weatherly

Weatherly rolled to a 17-4 Schuylkill League Division 3 win over Panther Valley.

BASEBALL

Panther Valley-Pottsville

Panther Valley surrendered 10 runs in the second inning and dropped a 13-3 mercy-rule decision to Pottsville in Schuylkill League action.

The Tide took advantage of six walks, a hit batter and two misplayed balls in the outfield to score 10 runs on only four hits in the second.

Zack King drove in a run for the Panthers on a RBI single in the second. The other two runs were scored on Pottsville errors.

GIRLS SOCCER

Pleasant Valley-Palisades

Elissa Berdini scored four goals for Palisades as it blanked Pleasant Valley, 4-0, in non-league play.

Janelle Pastrana had 14 saves in net for the Bears (4-3, 4-0).

Lehighton-Faith Christian

Faith Christian defeated Lehighton, 2-0, in a non-league game.

Rachel Shive scored both goals for Faith Christian (2-0), which outshot Lehighton, 16-4.

Layla Troutman played well in goal for the Indians (1-4), making 14 saves.

TRACK

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Pottsville swept Tamaqua in its dual meet Thursday, winning 83-67 on the girls' side and 125-25 on the boys' side.

Kayla Hope once again won four events for the Lady Raiders. She placed first in the 100M and 200M dashes along with the long jump and the triple jump. Teammate Christine Streisel won three events. She was the victor in all three throwing events and broke the school in the shot put. It was previously held at 36-4 by Jessica Bealer in 2008. Streisel set the new mark with a throw on 38-6.

Eric Hertzog won both hurdles events for the Tamaqua boys.
