Pleasant Valley picked up victories in baseball, softball, boys tennis and girls soccer to highlight Wednesday's scholastic sports action.

BASEBALL

PM West-Lehighton

Lehighton scored early and often in its Mountain Valley Conference baseball game with Pocono Mountain West, winning 16-1 in three innings.

Jacen Nalesnik led the Indians (10-2, 4-2) with three hits, three runs scored, and three RBIs. Steve Shanton added two hits and three runs scored and Darrin Wanamakerhad two hits and a RBI.

AJ Wenrich allowed five hits and struck out two to pick up the pitching win for Lehighton. Wenrich is now 5-0 on the season.

Wilson used a six-run second inning to beat Palmerton, 9-8, in a Colonial League game.

Aaron Cook had three hits and two RBIs and Mike Sander added two hits and two RBI's for the Bombers.

Pleasant Valley rallied for an 8-6 extra-inning victory over Pocono Mountain East in Mountain Valley Conference action.

The Bears tied the game in the top of the seventh on Troy VanHouten's sacrifice fly. They pushed across the winning runs in the eighth as Dan Hrebek and Jordan Caffrey delivered clutch singles.

Caffrey and Rob Getz both had two hits in the game for Pleasant Valley (5-5, 4-1). Getz knocked in two runs while Caffrey and Justin Raad both scored twice.

Steve Zimmerman cranked a grand slam in the sixth inning and helped Pine Grove to a 12-1 victory over Tamaqua.

Tamaqua's lone run was driven in by Brett Kosciolek. He singled in Ian Nicholls in the third.

The Raiders drop to 3-8.

Errors doomed Weatherly in its game with Schuylkill Haven as the Hurricanes rolled to a 14-4 Schuylkill League victory.

The Wreckers' Brett Stallone, Brian Maiello and Vinny McCroy all had two hits. All three players knocked in a run as well.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain scored 12 runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Jim Thorpe, 12-1 in five innings of play.

Krista Rehrig had a day to remember as she led Lehighton to a 12-0 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.

Rehrig took the mound and allowed just three hits while recording 11 punchouts in the shutout win. Offensively, she was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Indians' Ashley Sensinger (3-for-3) and Katie Green (2-for-2) had big games as well.

Lehighton moves to 7-3 (3-2) on the year.

Also contributing to the victory were Jordan Meckes (two hits, three runs); Hailey Marini (two hits, two runs, two RBIs); Melissa Ejk (two triples, four RBIs); Rachel Sisko (double, three RBIs); and Kelci Jones (triple, two RBIs).

Klapatch was also the winning pitcher, allowing four hits and striking out six.

Liberty-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley kept its successful season heading in the right direction with a 4-3 win over Liberty in non-league competition..

The outcome came down to the No. 1 doubles match where the Bears' Vince Voulo and Jon White defeated David Krauss and Kyle Manley 6-1, 6-1. PV won three of four doubles matches to key the victory.

With the win PV improves to 11-1 overall.

Dianna Connor scored a hat trick to lead Pleasant Valley to a 3-0 Mountain Valey Conference victory over East Stroudsburg North.

Ema Sabovic, Amber Skworzow and Emily Schlogl all picked up assists for the Bears (8-3, 7-0).

Pleasant Valley held a 26-5 advantage in shots. Bear goalies Sarah Elmontacir (four saves) and Janelle Pastrana (one save) combined for the shutout.

No. Lehigh-Pen Argyl

Shay Edwards scored a pair of goals to lead Pen Argyl to a 5-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

The loss drops the Bulldogs to 0-9-1 overall and 0-8-0 in the league.

Bangor-Northwestern

Northwestern used a tenacious defensive effort to blank Bangor 3-0 in Colonial League play.

The Tigers didn't allow a shot on goal from the Slaters for the entire match.

Sarah Segan scored two goals and had an assist for Northwestern with Sabrina Mertz chipping in with a score of her own.

Catasauqua-Palmerton

Kylee Turko scored two goals and helped Palmerton knock off Colonial League foe Catasauqua, 4-2.

Fellow Bombers Sabreena Strauch and Morgan Myers each added a goal. Katie Rinfret and Jenna Creed recorded assists.

Kelsey Eaton made 17 saves in net to preserve the win.

Shenandoah-Marian

Marian swept Shenandoah Valley 92-48 (girls) and 115-25 (boys) in a Schuylkill League meet.

In the girls meet, Alex Hutta led the Fillies by placing first in the 100 and 300 hurdles and also winning the javelin. Molly Balliet added first in the 800 and 1600.

In boys meet, Cy Shickora took home first place in the shot put and discus. Rutch placed first in the 800M and high jump for the Colts.

Lehighton split in its MVC track meet with East Stroudsburg South, with its win coming on the girls' side 110 - 40 .

The Lady Indians were led by Sage Terembula and Emily Oldt. Terembula won the 100-meter dash and placed second in the 200-meter, while Oldt took home the 3200-meter run and was runner-up in the 1600.

On the boys' side, Levi Haldeman walked away with a first and a second. He won the discus while coming in second in the shot put to teammate Eric Whiteman.

Panther Vy.-Pine Grove

Pine Grove swept Panther Valley in a Schuylkill League meet.

In the boys meet, Pine Grove posted a 106-35 victory. Nick McArdle was a triple winner for the Panthers (1-3), capturing the 100 meters, the long jump and the triple jump.

In the girls meet, Pine Grove rolled to a 122-18 victory. Abbey Whildin (100) was the only individual winner for Panther Valley (0-4).
