Mantz appointed to U.S. Military Academy
U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) announced the appointment of Nicholas Mantz of Andreas to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point for admission to the class of 2016. Sen. Toomey nominated Mantz to the academy.
Mantz, a student at Lehighton Area High School, is the son of David and Judy Mantz. He is the captain of the school's varsity tennis team.
"I am proud to announce the appointment of Nicholas Mantz to the U.S. Military Academy," Sen. Toomey said. "The selection process for the military academies is very competitive and appointees must demonstrate the highest caliber of academic success, leadership skills and character. Nicholas embodies these qualities, and I wish him the best with all his future endeavors."
To be appointed to a U.S. service academy, all potential students must first be nominated by either a member of Congress or the vice president. Selection criteria include academics, proven leadership and fitness as a military officer.
