Fillies handle Nativity

Marian defeated rival Nativity to highlight Friday's scholastic sports action.

In a game with playoff implications, Panther Valley fell to Pine Grove.

The Fillies used strong defense to keep the Golden Girls in single digits in three of the four quarters and picked up a 41-27 victory.

Kaysi McLaughlin had a game-high 13 points for Marian, while Danielle Tristani added 11. D. Luckenbill led nativity with seven.

Panther Vy.-Pine Grove

Pine Grove rolled to a 69-47 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley, ending the Panthers' District 11 playoff hopes.

Pine Grove was led by Becky Evans who scored 16 points.

The Panthers (10-12, 1-11), who needed a victory in their regular season finale to qualify for districts for the first time since 2003, got a huge game from freshman Abby Whilden who scored a season-high 23 points. Brittany Cunfer also played well, adding 11 points.

The Tigers saw a four-point halftime lead evaporate in the third quarter as the Rough Riders pulled away for a 67-59 Colonial League victory.
