Vavra's set to lead Warriors at PSAC's

Panther Valley graduates Sami Vavra a school record setters and her sister, freshman Karoline Vavra, lead East Stroudsburg University into the 2012 PSAC Swimming Championships, this Thursday through Sunday at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.

Sami Vavra, a junior, set the school record in the 100 breast on December 3 at the Grove City Invitational with a time of 1:07.22, good for the 12th seed entering the PSAC Championships. She will also compete in the 200 breast and 200 IM and has the second-fastest times in school history in both events.

Karoline Vavra qualified in 50, 100 and 200 free. She has come within a half-second of the 100 free record which was set in 2006.

In events that have prelims, the top eight finishers will advance to the championship final and next eight will compete in the consolation final.

The meet gets underway on Thursday when the Warriors compete in the 200 medley relay, where freshman Shelby Stalnaker will join Sami Vavra, Kimberly Lawson and Karoline Vavra.

The 200 IM (S. Vavra) and 50 free (K. Vavra) are on deck for Friday, along with the 200 free and 400 medley relays. Both Vavras will swim the 200 free relay and Lawson, Sami Vavra, Allison Schafer and Karoline Vavra will go in the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Lawson, Sam Vavra, Schafer and Andrea Tremper set the school record in 4:04.88 at Grove City in December.

On Saturday, Karoline Vavra swims in the 200 free and Sami Vavra in the 100 breast.

The final day on Sunday brings the 100 free (K. Vavra), 200 breast (S. Vavra) and 400 free relay.
