St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, will hold Ash Wednesday services tomorrow evening beginning at 7 p.m. There will be imposition of ashes and the Holy Sacrament.
During the Lenten season, the church will hold soup and scripture each Wednesday until Holy Week. This year's theme is "Church and Culture." The first speaker will be Rebekah McFadden on Feb. 29, speaking on "songs that have shaped my soul." On March 7, Ibiyinka Alao from Nigeria, will speak about "Biblical Dramatization." On March 14, Dr. Randy Perry will present "The history of some Lenten hymns." Finally, on March 21, Jack Gunsser will speak about "Science and Creationism."
The women of the church will be providing the soups and sandwiches for each week. These weekly meals and devotion begin at 6 p.m.
Community supper set
The next free community supper will be held on Sunday, Feb. 26, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Race Street. Beef stew will be served from 4-6 p.m.
