Older and bolder

The Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group will spring back into action on March 14. The regular Wednesday meetings are held at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St., and include a light luncheon. The first meeting of the year will have an Irish/Green theme.

A guest speaker from Diakon will attend the March 21 meeting with an exerette demonstration. Diakon offers a variety of services to those age 50 and older.

The March 28 meeting will include hand bell rehearsal and use of the computer lab.

The bell tour for Easter will include April 3, Hometown Nursing Center at 10 a.m., Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise at 11 a.m. and Majestic House Complex at noon; and April 4, St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital at noon and Maple Shade Meadows at 2:30 p.m.

Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Seniors met Feb. 23 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 84 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business meeting.

Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "It's Me again Lord." Secretary Joan Anne Garber provided her weekly report. Doris Pierce and Mary Draper were added to the sick list and Rosetta Folk is recuperating at home.

A discussion was held concerning possible upcoming activities, such as a picnic and trips to Knoebel's and Shady Maple.

The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.

SS. Peter and Paul

Stations of the Cross will be held every Wednesday, at 7 p.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Stations will be preceded by a holy hour of prayer, including a recitation of the rosary, beginning at 6 p.m. A holy hour of prayer will also be held every Saturday, from 4 -5 p.m., during Lent. The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed during these holy hours.

Choir rehearsals will be held following the Wednesday Stations of the Cross, beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m.

First Friday will be observed next week, March 1 and 2. Communion calls will be made on Thursday for residents of Hometown and Coaldale. All others will begin Friday at 9 a.m. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m.

March 3 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the rosary and Devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.

Members of the parish Holy rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on March 4 and receive Holy Communion as a group. A rosary will be said before the Mass.

Class of 1943

The Tamaqua High School Class of 1943 will see a change of plans for its 69th anniversary reunion, which will be held on June 16.

Due to a reconstruction project at the Owl Creek Dams, the reunion has been moved to La Dolce Casa, 16 W. Broad St., Tamaqua. Festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m.
