Feed the People

Feed the People provides a free hot meal for any community member who wants one, regardless of residency.

On Tuesday, March 6, Feed the People will be serving at The Heritage Center, 1 W. Hazard St., Summit Hill, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

This is a community cafe with a welcoming atmosphere.

Participants will be able to meet neighbors, share a cup of coffee or a meal, and share information about what is happening in the community. Volunteers are welcome.

Fire company drive

Diligence Fire Company No. 1, Summit Hill, is in the midst of its 2012 fund drive.

This is the company's main source of revenue and helps the firemen pay loans associated with its trucks, as well as to provide the apparatus necessary to have a fully-equipped fire service.

The donations can be mailed to the company in the envelope provided in the recent mailing, or they can be dropped off at John's Auto Repair or the office of the borough secretary.

In addition to the donations, the company is asking townspeople to return the survey information cards that were included in the mailing. This helps the firemen properly identify residents needs in the case of a response.

Recreation commission

The Summit Hill Recreation Commission will meet on Monday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in the community center, 113 W. Ludlow St. Monica A. Marshall, chairwoman, will be in charge.

SHCIO to meet

The Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization will meet on Monday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Hall. Sara Ruch, the Lansford-Summit Hill Partnership manager, will address the group and give her report as to the banners for the Ludlow Park Celebration to be held 2014 and the printing of the new walking tour brochure.

Also to be discussed will be the Hill Top Community Center sign to be put in place this spring at the new hall located on Ludlow Street.

All interested persons are welcome to attend.

OLOAA registration

Our Lady of the Angels Academy, Lansford, is accepting registrations for kindergarten and new students in grades 1-8. Parents can register their child(ren) between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the school. They can also contact the school office to pre-arrange a more convenient time for signing up.

At the time of registration, parents must present the child's birth certificate, baptismal certificate, immunization records and a registration fee.

Nesquehoning

NCFC Ladies Auxiliary meeting

The Ladies Auxiliary to the New Columbus Fire Company will hold its next meeting on March 6 at 7 p.m.

President Jerry McConnon will preside and the refreshment committee will be Marion Tylaha and Ursula Digilio.

Conservation Club

The next meeting of the Nesquehoning Conservation Club will be on Wednesday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Maple Shade Meadows. Plans for the upcoming children's fishing derby will be discussed. Dues can also be paid at the meeting.

Members are also encouraged to bring in their Redners Save-a-Tapes.

Special service

Literally translated, "Lectio Divina" means divine reading and is a term that refers to a way of reading and praying the Holy Scriptures.

On Sunday, March 4 at 6 p.m., the public is welcome to experience a "Lectio Divina" Holy Hour at St. Francis Church, Mill and Ratcliff streets, Nesquehoning.
