March 16, 1982 The Palmerton girls use their press to race to an early lead and then coast the rest of the way to claim a 61-45 victory over Mount Carmel in the first round of the PIAA state playoffs. Wendy George accounts for eight of her team's points as the Lady Bombers bolt to a 20-2 advantage. George finishes with a team-high 16 points while Kristen Cortazzo contributes 13. The winners, coached by Bill Piper, also receive 12 points from Kim Dakan and 10 from Anne Searles.
