Garden club scholarship

The South Schuylkill Garden Club is offering a $750 scholarship to a selected Schuylkill County student planning to further his or her education in the field of horticulture, floriculture, landscape architecture, conservation, forestry, botany, agronomy, plant pathology, environmental control, city planning, land management or related subjects.

Interested students must submit an application, with a letter of interest, two reference letters and an official high school/college transcript.

Rush taxes

Rush Township Tax Collector Dolores Walck has announced the 2012 tax bills have been mailed to township residents ages 18 and up. Anyone in that age group, who has not received a tax form, should contact Walck at (570) 668-5661.

Office hours for March and April will be Tuesdays, from 9-11 a.m., and Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m. For May and June, the office will be open Tuesdays, from 9-10 a.m. and Wednesdays, from 6-7 p. m.

Additional hours will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, April 30.

Walck's office will be closed May 22 and 23, as well as June 12 and 13.

Calvary UM

Nathan Stein of Mount Joy will present the message at this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, a praise, worship and Bible study session will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.

Zion Valley Christian Preschool will hold an open house, from 6-8 p.m., on March 15, at the Christian Education Building, 489 Valley Rd., Tamaqua. Preschool teachers will be available to answer any questions. Snacks and refreshments will be served.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. Adult Sunday school will meet at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, a pot luck supper will be held at 6 p.m., followed by the third Bible session at 7 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, community mid-week Lenten service, at noon, followed by a light luncheon, chancel choir rehearsal is at 7 p.m.

Trinity UCC

The Rev. Thomas Reinsel, interim pastor, will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Trinity United Church of Christ. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at 8:45 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, consistory meeting at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, joint UCC mid-week Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. at St. John UCC; Thursday, Confirmation class meets at 4 p.m., senior choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, fish fry from 4-7 p.m., decorating committee meets at 6 p.m.; Saturday, decorating committee meets at 8 a.m.
