Prayer Shawl expanding

With a tally of over 600 prayer shawls having been completed by the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Effort UMC, the group is expanding into education. Members are offering beginner classes for knitting and crocheting for three months this spring. The public is welcome. Needles and yarn will be provided if someone has none.

Alternating every other week, the first crochet class is April 12 and the first knitting class is April 19. Classes run from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday, at the church.

Anyone interested should contact Jan Decker at (570) 688-9222 to make sure enough material is on hand for participants.

PIC road cleanup

Pride In Chestnuthill set up spring roadside litter cleanup days at the group's last meeting. Members are scheduled to go out on March 31 (there is no rain date because of Easter), April 14, April 28, May 12, May 26 and June 9. Rain dates are the following Saturday.

PIC is a small group of volunteers, mostly senior citizens, so help is needed. Volunteers meet at 7 a.m. at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building on Route 715 on those dates, unless there is rain, snow, drizzle or temperatures below 40 degrees.

Participants are asked to wear rugged jeans, boots and a brightly-colored shirt. Youngsters 13-18 must be accompanied by a parent.

The PIC group does not expect anyone to be able to make all of the cleanup days, but if anyone can put at least one date aside to help make Chestnuthill Township cleaner, members would appreciate it. PIC is thankful for township residents who clean up in front of their own properties or roads.

For more information call (570) 992-7247.

Chestnuthill Alumni

The Chestnuthill High School Alumni Association has announced its annual banquet will be Saturday, May 12, at the Polk Township Fire Hall in Kresgeville. The social hour begins at 1 p.m. and the dinner will be served at 2 p.m.

Anyone who has not received an invitation and request form for reservations may contact Hoffman at (570) 992-6495.

Reservations must be returned to the association by April 19. No reservations will be accepted after that date.
