Napping in the wrong place leads to arrests
A Tamaqua man and woman were arrested in two separate incidents after both were found sleeping where they didn't belong.
Tamaqua Police were investigating a suspicious activity call Sundaywhen they encountered a man who had an outstanding warrant issued for his arrest.
Brett Rodriguez, 38, of 263 Lafayette St., Tamaqua, was found sleeping on a couch in a home on Elm Street. While waiting for confirmation of the warrant, the officer saw Rodriguez take a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket and try to stuff them under the couch cushion. The pack was retrieved and examined. It contained a small pack containing a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Rodriguez was transported to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville on the warrant.
He will also be charged with possession of a controlled substance.
On Tuesday Tamaqua Police were called toa Mauch Chunk Street residence at 4:38 p.m. for a possible burglary. The officer spoke with the owner, who said he found a woman on the rear second floor balcony. That woman said she was on her way to visit a friend.
The landlord then took officers inside, to see if entry had been made or if anything was damaged. They found Denise Latham, 34, last known address of 29 E. Elm St., Tamaqua, sleeping on the third floor. She was not allowed in the apartment, according to the landlord.
Latham was arraigned before duty District Magisterial Judge David Rossi on charges of criminal trespass and defiant trespass. Rossi set bail at $5,000 straight, which she was unable to post.
Latham was lodged in the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville.
