Hitting star(s) - Hector Luna and Domonic Brown each had two hits and provided the lone run. Luna led off the fourth inning with a double. Brown followed with an RBI single for the lone run of the game.
Pitching star(s) - Iron Pig starting pitcher Scott Elarton tossed five shutout innings, surrendering just two hits and striking out four. The Bullpen was solid again with three scoreless innings to preserve the win.
After sitting out all of 2011 he bumped into Phillies GM Ruben Amaro last season he was invited to camp. The former first round draft pick by the Houston Astros has 56 big league wins in his injury plagued career.
Key play - With two outs and the bases loaded in the fifth inning and the IronPigs clinging to a 1-0 lead, Elarton struck out top-Red Sox prospect Jose Iglesias to end the inning.
Notes - Elarton (1-0) notched first win as a starter since June 28, 2007 when he pitched for Omaha, the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals...Brown now has the game winning hit in each of the last two IronPig wins. In game two of Saturday's double-header, Brown's two-run single in the sixth inning provided the difference in the 3-2 comeback win. It was second come-from behind win of the season for Lehigh Valley. In 2011, the Pigs came from behind to win in 40 of their 80 wins...The IronPig bullpen, the backbone of last year's playoff run, has picked up where they left off. Through the first five games, the bullpen has a sparkling 0.65 ERA. Last night closed the deal last night with Brian Sanches and Michael Schwimmer setting up Jake Diekman for the save...Manager Ryne Sandberg's closer by committee is working out well. They are 4-for-4 in save opportunities with four different pitchers recording saves.... Combined they have given up just one earned run in 13.1 innings pitched...IronPig pitching overall has been great while their hitting has mimicked the parent club. The staff has registered their second shutout of the season while owning a 1.58 Team ERA while the IronPig hitters are just 4-37 with runners in scoring position. The Pig batting average is just .210 (35-for 167), last in the International League.
Hit Streak - Outfielder Derrick Mitchell now has a four game hit streak and leads the IronPigs with a .312 average.
