Memberships on the decline

Dear Editor:

It has come to my attention that Carbon County and surrounding areas have an abundance of veterans.

Therefore, I am surprised that the memberships in veterans organizations are on the decline.

The VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, and Navy Club are all hurting. Some even had to go out of business.

Veterans parades are poorly attended.

Some fundraisers don't meet expected goals. Meeting requirements to work with the area is becoming harder each year.

These are the only organizations where a vet can go and other vets share experiences.

It's coming to the point where a veteran may stop caring himself. THAT would be very bad. I ask each and every veteran please, if you don't belong to join.

The Navy Club takes Navy, Marines, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. All others can be associate members.

The VFW, American Legion and AMVETS take all honorable discharged vets.

We need membership and active members so we can do the things that need to be done. All present members should recruit, attend meetings and take part.

The Carbon County Navy Club is offering to do a program of how to honor the flag. This program is free of charge and the audience takes part. It has been done in schools and scout meetings.

If our membership grows, other programs will become available.

We are looking forward to doing things in the community. We need men and women as regular members and anyone else as associate members. This includes civilians.
