Lioness meeting

The Western Pocono Lioness Club meets the last Tuesday of each month at the American Legion, on Route 209 in Gilbert. The club's next meeting will be Tuesday, April 24, beginning with a social hour at 6 p.m. The business meeting will follow. The guest speaker will be herbalist Lori Jacobs.

The club's next event will be a Holistic Fair on May 5 at the West End Fire Hall in Brodheadsville.

Becker to speak

Jim Becker will be the guest at the April 19 West End Rotary Club breakfast meeting. He will speak about Rotary Foundation Success.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Zion Seniors

Zion Lutheran Church's Senior citizens will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 19. The church's new mailing address is 1919 Route 209, Brodheadsville.

The Monroe County Seniors, which also meets at Zion, will meet at 9 a.m., Friday, April 20.

Board of Education

Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, April 19, in the district office in Brodheadsville.

Special programs

The Chestnuthill Senior Center will welcome practical nursing students from Northampton Community College on April 20. The students will do a Community Health Education Project.

On April 25, the topic at the Chestnuthill Seniors will be: Taking Care of Your Feet.

Sunday Supper

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is now offering community Sunday Suppers to those in need twice a month. The next supper will be Sunday, April 22.

Reservations must be made through the church office. The number is (570) 681-6137.

Hunger Concert

Kids Against Hunger Concert will be held at Pleasant Valley High School at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, April 22. It is hosted by Zion Lutheran Church.

Featured will be Zion's Church and Children's Choir, Mountainhome UMC Church Choir, Effort UMC Church Choir, Kunkletown UCC Choir, St. Paul's Craigs Meadow Lutheran Church Choir, Mountain Winds Woodwind Quintet, PA Strings, and soloist Beth Faulstick, with Nancy Joy Koch director.

Teens raise help

When the teens of Our Lady Queen of Peace finished their famine and the funds realized were counted, their hunger event raised $774, which will help feed the needy in the community.

One of the main institutions serving the needy locally is the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network Community Service Center. It is in great need of peanut butter and boxed side dishes.

PVHS Academic Fair

The Academic Fair for the Pleasant Valley School district will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Monday, April 23, at the high school.

Close the Loop

Close the Loop and Chestnuthill Township, along with the West End Park & Open Space Commission, will hold the 4th Give and Take Day event at Chestnuthill Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville, on Saturday, April 28. Residents are invited to bring any reusable items between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and then take away anything wanted from 1-4 p.m.

It's free and one doesn't have to bring something to take something.

VBS set

St. Peter's UMC in Saylorsburg will hold Vacation Bible School the week of June 11. More details will be forthcoming.

Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will hold its VBS the following week, June 18-22.
