This past Sunday, Bishop James C. Timlin confirmed over 120 young people at the service at Our Lady Queen of Peace.
This Sunday, over 100 parish children will be receiving First Communion.
PV School Board
The next meeting of the Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will be at 8 p.m., Thursday, May 10, in the district office in Brodheadsville.
Rotary speaker
The West End Rotary Club will host Dolores Everett at its Thursday, May 10, breakfast meeting at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville. Her topic will be: Girls on the Run.
Hispanic prayer group
A bilingual night of Healing and Prayer will be hosted by the Hispanic prayer group at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church from 7-10:30 p.m., Friday, May 11.
Three shows
Pleasant Valley Middle School will present its musical production, "Into the Woods," at 7 p.m., Friday, May 11, and at 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday, May 12.
Tickets will be available at the door of the Old Gym at the middle school.
Mother-Daughter banquet
Effort UMC's United Church Women is hosting a Mother-Daughter banquet, Monday, May 13.
Introduced to the attendees will be Woofi the Puppy.
Rosalie Juris will lead the devotions and there will also be a speaker from western PA.
The event is a covered-dish gathering.
All Sports Club
The monthly meeting of the Pleasant Valley All Sports Club will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, May 14, at the PVHS library in Brodheadsville.
Two speakers at Lions
The Western Pocono Lions will meet Wednesday, May 16. The program will be presented by representatives of Northampton Community College Matt Connell, dean of the Monroe Campus, and Cathleen Canevari, major gifts officer. The meeting will be held at the Old Mill Pizza and Restaurant, Sciota. A social time begins at 6:30 p.m. with the dinner meeting starting at 7 p.m. Visitors are welcome. Volunteers needed
Zion United Lutheran in Brodheadsville is in need of 200 multigenerational volunteers to help assemble 30,000 food packets from 1-2:30 p.m., 2:30-4 p.m., or clean up from 4-5 p.m., May 19, for the Kids Against Hunger service project. Boxes of packets will be distributed to local food pantries and to children at the Village of Hope School in Haiti.

Free Child Safety Fair
GFWC Western Pocono Women's Club is co-sponsoring a free Child Safety Fair with the West End Park and Open Space Commission, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 26, at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
State police will be on hand to fingerprint children, as well as check car seats. Pocono Medical Center will provide information, and the West End Ambulance and West End Fire Company will be present for folks to tour vehicles and trucks.
A simulated "Smoke House" from Tobyhanna Army Depot will be available to demonstrate safe ways to escape a house fire. A representative from The Loft in Tannersville will be available from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for bike inspections. Information for 911 Address ID Signs will also be available inside the township building, as well as other free safety information.
Food and beverages will be available from Boy Scout Troop 98.

Driver safety
The four-hour AARP Driver Safety refresher course will be offered at the Chestnuthill Park building in Brodheadsville, Saturday, June 16. Class will begin at 1 p.m.
