Cressona band

The Cressona Band will be appearing locally three times over the summer months, providing free entertainment to all.

The first concert will be held at 7 p.m. on June 6 at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, 222 E. Broad St. Next up will be a performance at the East End Playground, at 7 p.m., on July 18. The third appearance will be Aug. 5, from 4-6 p.m., at Heisler's Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley.

All of the performances will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear.

The public is welcome to attend.

Cross country

The Tamaqua Cross Country Boosters will begin gearing up for the 2012-2013 season and will meet today, at 6:30 p.m., on the front steps of the Tamaqua Area Senior High School. Anyone interested in supporting the teams is welcome.

Parents of the incoming freshman class are also welcome to attend.

ESRC volleyball

The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission will sponsor a Summer Volleyball League for adults 18 and older. Registrations are now being accepted.

Contests will be held at the sand volleyball court at the Black Diamond Park, Coaldale.

The league is co-ed and teams may have between six and 10 players. Games are scheduled to begin June 14 and will then be held Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer months.

Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Seniors met May 24 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 93 members in attendance. One new member, Norma Lee Burke, was welcomed.

President Jean Machamer conducted the business session ad provided an inspirational reading. Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "Old Friends." Vice President Nancy Gerber and secretary Joan Anne Garber provided their reports.

The meeting concluded with cards and social games.

The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.

SS. Peter and Paul

High school and college graduates will be honored at the 8 a.m. Mass on June 3 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Pine Street.

Graduates are reminded to bring their caps and gowns and meet in the parish hall prior to Mass.

First Friday will be observed this week. Communion calls will be made on Thursday for residents of Hometown and Coaldale. All others will begin Friday at 9 a.m. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m.

June 2 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the Rosary and Devotions prior to the 8 a.m. Mass.

Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on June 3 and receive Holy Communion as a group. A rosary will be said prior to the Mass.

School's out party

The North and Middle Ward Playground Association will sponsor an "End of School" party on May 31 at the Washington Street playground. Festivities, for all ages, will be held from 7-9 p.m.

Music will be provided by DJ Ray. The public is welcome to attend.
