Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met May 22 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 44 members in attendance. Two new members, Joseph St. Ong and George Carvel were welcomed.

Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation. Reports were offered by Vice President Rhoda Purnell and treasurer Shirley Becker, who also offered inspirational readings. Upcoming events include an election of officers on June 12 and the annual picnic, at St. Peter's UCC Grove, on July 24.

The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.

Lyme disease

Penn State Master Gardeners are sponsoring a mini seminar about Lyme disease on June 26 at the Schuylkill Ag Center Conference Room, 1202 Ag Center Dr., Pottsville. Special guest speaker will be Dr. Ron Hamlen, vice chair of the Lyme disease Association of Southeastern PA.

In addition to discussing the primary concerns surrounding Lyme disease, Dr. Hamlen will explain the ongoing research to control and eradicate the disease. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.

The seminar will begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call (570) 622-4225, extension 13.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include a Sundae Sunday Summer School kick off.

Also on Sunday, Daisies and Brownies will meet at 2 p.m.

The prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m. on Thursdays.

The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: cherub choir at 6:30 p.m. and senior choir at 7 p.m.

Calvary UM

Lay Leader Terry Gerber will direct this Sunday's 10:25 a.m. worship service in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church. The Rev. Art Yeager will offer the message. Rev. Yeager will also speak at Sunday's 6:30 p.m. praise and worship service.

The Auburn Camp meeting will be held on June 6 in Auburn

Volunteers are needed to help clean the Tabernacle. Work sessions will be held June 4 and June 7, beginning at 6 p.m. each day.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m. growth group end times, 11 a.m. at the ABC Hi Rise; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, growth group end times, 1 p.m., Majestic House Complex; Friday, TYM/elementary camping trip, 6 p.m., at Locust Lake.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include Holy Communion. Adult Sunday school meets at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, graduates and confirmands will be recognized at a family dinner following the worship service. The Trevorrow Scholarships will be awarded at this time.

The trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, followed by a 7 p.m. meeting of the administrative council.
