Lions to meet

The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Lions Club will be held on Wednesday, June 6, at the Harry Packer Mansion, Jim Thorpe. Judy Midas, first vice president, will be in charge of the session.

The evening will include tours of the mansion and its grounds.

Members planning to attend are asked to contact her by Friday, June 1, in order to get an accurate headcount for the event.

St. Paul Lutheran

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, has announced its schedule for June.

On June 3, Holy Trinity Sunday, the Rev. Dr. Dennis S. Ritter will be leading the worship service at 10:30 a.m. He is the executive director of Lutheran Congregational Services, Inc., Allentown.

Also on June 3, a Festival Sanctus Choir, featuring students from Jim Thorpe led by Alex Haggerty, will provide special music for the service.

On Sunday, June 10, the start of the worship service will change to 9:30 a.m., and will remain at that starting time through the summer months. The Rev. Richard B. Baumann, a part-time pastor from Allentown, will conduct the worship service.

St. Paul's will hold a church council meeting on Tuesday, June 12, at 7 p.m. in the church.

The Rev. Richard L. Hinkle, a retired pastor from Weatherly, will lead the worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 17, and the Rev. George P. Zacharda, a retired pastor from Catasauqua, will lead the worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 24.

Contest winners

The Summit Hill Memorial Day Parade Committee has announced the names of winners of the home-decorating contest the committee sponsors in conjunction with the parade. Judging took place on Sunday, May 27, by out-of-town guests.

The winners will receive cash prizes.

First place was won by Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wargo, 109 E. Walter St., while second place went to Mr. and Mrs. Pete Yusella, 17 W. Amidon St., and the third place winners were Mindy Penberth and Tom McArdle, 347 W. White St.

Meanwhile, the parade committee also announced winners of the floats that were entered in the parade. First place was won by the St. Gabriel's Italian Club, 121 N. Market St. Second place was won by the Winnie the Pooh Preschool, 44 W. White St., and winning third place was the Coaldale American Legion Post, Coaldale.

Lansford

Sister is honored

Sister Florence Kruczek, a daughter of the former SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lansford, and a Bernardine Franciscan Sister, was recently named Professor Emerita at Alvernia University, Reading, for her contributions to the field of education.

She is a current member of the Campus Ministry Team at Alvernia, where for over 40 years she taught Latin and French. In 2008, she received an honorary doctorate from the university.

Sister is noting her 66th year in the Bernardine Franciscan Order.

Bloodmobile

St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will sponsor a bloodmobile for the Miller-Keystone Memorial Blood Center on Monday, June 18, from 1-6:30 p.m. in the church hall.

Miller-Keystone is the sole provider of blood for local hospitals. Officials note more than 500 donors are needed regionally every day to assist the hospitals in the life-saving care of premature infants, accident victims, surgery patients and chemotherapy patients.

Donors must be 17 years of age or older. Individuals can donate whole blood up to six times per year.

Graduation gifts

The First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, which consists of Branch 140, St. Ann Society, and Branch 46, St. Mary Magdalene Society, Lansford, will award monetary gifts to its members who will graduate from eighth grade and high school.

Information on the graduates (name, address of member, name of school and date of graduation) must be submitted to Carolyn Bazik, 121 W. Bertsch St., Lansford, PA 18232, for eighth grade graduates; or Louise Dunstan, 210 E. Patterson St., Lansford, PA., for high school graduates.

Youths hold concert

Students from Our Lady of the Angels Academy, Lansford, presented their spring concert recently for family members and friends of the school.

Special instrument solos were performed by Rachelle Filer, Seth Feisel, Andrea McArdle, Stephen Puza, Colin Rehnert, Zachary Gilbert, Max Vermillion, Barry Fulton and Jordan Reis.
